To pursue a UG/PG Law degree, students must pass the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which is conducted by National Law Universities (NLUs) every year. This entrance exam is required to secure a seat in top-approved colleges or universities that offer BA LLB and LLM courses in India. Following the growing number of students, apart from NLUs, there are several private universities and colleges accepting CLAT scores to provide admission to potential aspirants.

It is important to know that CLAT 2026 registrations have begun. Interested students can register betweenAugust 1 and October 31, 2025. The exam will take place onDecember 7, 2025,from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, using pen and paper. According to recent government data, 26 National Law Universities welcome CLAT scores. NLU Delhi offers AILET, which is also approved by a few colleges. It is worth noting that NLU Tripura has opted out of the 2025-26 admissions counseling procedure.

What is the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)?

The Common Law Admission Test or also known as CLAT, is an entrance exam conducted by the National Law Universities (NLUs) that works as the gateway to enroll in Law Colleges in India.
