List of 22 Fake Universities Running in India Proposed by UGC

University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the list of 22 Universities that are considered fake due to a lack of proper recognition and accreditation stated under the UGC Act, 1956. UGC, a government body working under the Ministry of Education, is formed to grant higher educational institutions on the basis of their faculty, curriculum, student support, and educational standards. Each and every institute in India should have complied with the UGC Regulations to offer courses through regular, online and distance modes.

The commission has recently released the list of Institutes as the ‘Fake Universities 2025,’ which were operating without proper accreditation and wrongly presenting themselves as legitimate universities. However, as per the UGC, these institutions are not recognized and authorized to offer degrees, and their issued certificates are considered invalid on both academic and professional fronts.

List of Fake Universities Released By UGC

The list of Universities stated as fake is mentioned below. The UGC urges students to make a mindful decision while pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate courses and not forget to check the accreditations and recognition of the chosen university before heading to it. The list also shows that the Capital of India, Delhi, has the highest number of fake universities.
