Those who are aspiring to build their career in the educational sector and want to work as Junior Research Fellow, Assistant Professor, or want to pursue a Ph.D program can now register themselves for UGC NET exams.

The University Grants Commission has released a notification to invite applicants for the UGC NET December 2025 examinations from its official website. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the National Eligibility Test (NET) two times in a year, in June and December, to determine the eligibility of Indian National Students to apply for Ph.D courses, JRF, and Assistant Professors posts.

The registration window has already opened from 7 October 2025 and will be working till 7 November 2025 (Up to 11:59 PM). Interested and eligible candidates are requested to go through the official notification and fill up the form to take the exam before the last date. Application Fee

Here’s the fee structure for December 2025 (as per TMU’s announcement):

  • General / Unreserved: ₹1,150
  • OBC / EWS: ₹600
  • SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender: ₹325

Fees are to be paid online (credit card, net banking, UPI, etc.) during registration.

Who Can Apply: Eligibility Criteria

Students who want to fill up the application form should meet the minimum eligibility criteria imposed by the NTA. Moreover, there is no experience required to apply for the exam.

Educational Qualifications

  • Applicants should have completed their Master’s degree in a relevant subject from a recognized university with at least 55% marks.
  • Applicants who have completed their Bachelor’s degree in 4 years or with 8 semesters can also apply, but should have at least a minimum of 75% marks.

Age Limit

To apply for the exam, the person should follow the minimum and maximum age limit criteria proposed by the committee.

  • General / Unreserved: 30 Years (Upper Age Limit)
  • OBC / EWS: 35 Years (Upper Age Limit)
  • SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender: 35 Years (Upper Age Limit)

UGC NET 2025 Registration Process: Step-by-Step

To apply for the exam, eligible and interested students should apply through the online system by creating an account on the official website.

  • Visit the official portal at ugcnet.nta.nic.in

  • Fill in personal, academic, and category details
  • Upload scanned photograph and signature (as per specs)
  • Pay the application fee
  • Submit and download the confirmation page
  • (If needed) Use the correction window Nov 10–12 for edits

Exam Pattern & Syllabus

Structure

Paper 2 Topics

Candidates choose one subject from the UGC’s prescribed list, and the questions would be based on the Master’s level syllabus of that subject (e.g., in sciences, humanities, commerce, etc.).

The National Testing Agency conducts the exam twice a year (in June and December). The exam is designed to identify applicants for Junior Research Fellowships and eligibility as teachers in the faculty of science in Indian universities or colleges. Since December 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has been conducting the UGC-NET in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode.
